The town of Loja is in the western part of the province of Granada. It covers 454.7 km2, a third of which is made up of low mountainous land that rises over the lower countryside.

An incredible number of fresh water sources supply local rivers and stream with delightfully clear water. Water snakes through the valleys and low lands between the mosaic of different crop growth and forms pools, roaring waterfalls and valuable wetlands.

The area is spotted with small towns and farming communities between the fields and hills offering a hotchpotch environment of distinctly differing characteristics. All these can be reached by following the local roads, paths and goat tracks right to each unique place. In the end, the area offers an incredible wealth of activities. One can enjoy its tourism, history, local customs, sport, culture, tradition, adventure, etc.

Ventorros de San José has the biggest population this close to Loja, it is also the highest above sea level. It dates back to the beginnings of the 20th century. It is gifted with very fertile soil and locally grown fruit and vegetables have afforded its inhabitants one of the highest standards of living in the area. Nearby, in the Sierra Martilla, there is a megalithic complex of dolmens dating back to ancient times.
