Sorroundings/Situation

At 12 Km. from Malaga capital and within its bay of almost 7kms of coastline, Torremolinos is situated in the very heart of the Costa del Sol. Due to its situation within the bay of Malaga and at the foothills of the Sierra de Mijas, which protects it from the northern wind, Torremolinos is in a privileged place and owes its special climate to that fact. Typically Mediterranean, temperatures are mild throughout the whole year, even in winter the average daytime temperature is 19º Celsius. This mild subtropical climate, one of its main attractions, means that fruit like cherimoya, banana and avocado can be grown in the area around Torremolinos, as well as sugar cane. So, Torremolinos during almost twelve months of the year offers its visitors the possibility of diving into the warm transparent waters of the Mediterranean, while enjoying the options available on its beaches that extend the length of the new Promenade. The old Punta de Torremolinos or Castillo del Inglés (Englishman’s Castle) marks the geographic limit between the eastern and western beaches. The six main beaches are Los Alamos, Playamar, Bajondillo, La Carihuela, Montemar and El Saltillo. As the beaches are one of the main attractions to the town, they are being constantly improved. Each year they offer more and better services to guarantee safe bathing, security, medical assistance, comfort and obviously, fun and leisure. This constant effort made to sep these beaches perfect is recognised by the European Community each year when they are awarded the Blue Flag as proof of their fine state.
